Brad&Tricia Henderson,
missionaries to Tanzania
About the
Henderson’s
Brad was born and
raised in Nova Scotia, Canada. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior
at the age of six. He moved to Florida with his parents at the age of 18 and
attended Bible College. Tricia grew up in North Canton, Ohio and attended
Canton Baptist Temple. She was led to the Lord by her father at the age of ten.
Brad and Tricia were married after graduating from college. Brad served a one
year internship at Canton Baptist Temple and then served as associate/youth
pastor at Liberty Baptist Church in Bristol, CT for five years.
Brad and Tricia both surrendered their life to be missionaries to Tanzania after
taking a trip to visit the country. They are sent out by their home church,
Canton Baptist Temple, serving under SENT Inc. They will minister at the TRUTH
Center with fellow SENT missionaries, Steve and Natalie Burkholder and Nate and
Heather Wolf.
THE PEOPLE
The Datooga Tribe
The Datooga tribe
resides in the northern volcanic highlands of Tanzania, especially around Mount
Hanang. This mountain is an important theme in Datooga myth and song.
The Datooga themselves blend in with their environment. However, they decorate
themselves in reddish, patched leather dresses, bead work, and brass bracelets
and necklaces. Distinct markings of Datooga women are tattooed patterns around
the eyes and elongated earlopes.
The Datooga are proud people and are stong warriors. Young men are honored from
killing dangerous wild animals, such as elephant, lion or buffalo. The Datooga
are a very isolated and primitive tribe. They have a very low standard of
living and a very high infant mortality rate.
They are resistant to
cultural change, including belief in Christianity, adhering to traditional
animist beliefs. The Datooga are animists who respect and fear their ancestors.
They are involved in divination, rain-making, witchcraft and sorcery. They
believe in one creator god, Aseeta. Communication with ancestors provides
spiritual guidance for many Datooga. Deeply rooted in Satanism, the Datooga
tribe is in desperate need of hope in a Savior.
Our Partners
Steve, Natalie, Hannah and Caleb Burkholder:
Steve and Natalie have
been missionaries to Tanzania since 2001. The Burkholders planted a church in
the village of Simbay during their first term and turned the church over to a
national pastor, Nicodemus. They are now in the town of Katesh, where they have
established Truth Baptist Church, the future home of the T.R.U.T.H. Center.
Nate and Heather Wolf:
Nate and Heather Wolf
have been missionaries to Tanzania since 2006. They joined the Burkholders in
the large task of reaching the Hanang region of Tanzania in the town of Katesh.
THE PLACE
“The Datooga reside predominately around Mt. Hanang. The
town of Katesh, (pictured above) lies at the base of Mt. Hanang, in the heart of
the Hanang district. Katesh, therefore is the ideal location to start reaching
the surrounding villages with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the Truth
Center.”

“The purpose of the Truth Center is to strengthen the Truth Baptist Church,
through the learning center, youth center, and Bible institute it is our desire
to lead people to Christ, Baptize them, and teach them the TRUTH of God’s word.
Through this we are praying that God will call national men to shepherd their
people. We that we are limited in what we can do as American missionaries, but
there are no limits on what God can do through national pastors.”
